Crunchy Peanut Butter Dog Cookies
Ingredient List: 1 cup (250 ml) dry oats 2 cups (500 ml) whole wheat flour 1 cup (250 ml) all-natural peanut butter 1 cup (250 ml) water 1/4 cup (60 ml) canola oil 1 egg, beaten (or Egg Beaters, equiv. to 1 egg)
Preheat oven to 350°F (180° C). Mix all of the ingredients together in a fairly large bowl. Sprinkle a bit of flour over a flat, clean surface, and roll the mixture out over the flour to about ¾” (2 mm) thickness. Use dog-themed cookie cutters or simply cut into rectangles and place on a lightly greased cookie sheet. Cook first for 20 minutes on one side and then flip the treats over and cook an additional 20 minutes. Remove to cooling racks and let dry out thoroughly. Treats are ready after about two hours.

Chocolate
Chocolate contains an element which is toxic to dogs, called Theobromine. Even an
ounce or two of chocolate can be lethal to a small dog (10 lbs. or less). Larger
quantities of chocolate can poison or even kill a medium or large dog. Dark and
unsweetened baking chocolates are especially dangerous. Symptoms of chocolate
poisoning include: vomiting, diarrhea, tremors, hyperactivity and seizures. During many
holidays such as Christmas, New Year's Day, Easter and Halloween, chocolate is often
accessible to curious dogs, and in some cases, people unwittingly poison their dogs by
offering them chocolate as a treat.
Heatstroke and Heat Exhaustion
A dog's normal internal body temperature is between 100.5 degrees F and 102 degrees
F. Leaving a dog in a parked car in the summer (even with the window a few inches
open), can cause heatstroke within minutes. Heat exhaustion is usually caused by
over-exercising a dog during hot weather. Both heatstroke and heat exhaustion can
result in brain damage, heart failure or even death in a short period of time. To cool off
an overheated dog, wet the dog's body and paws with cool water, then fan. If the dog
experiences heatstroke or heat exhaustion, he should receive veterinary attention as
soon as possible.

Dog Food & Diet
Obesity in dogs is a serious
medical problem. Fat dogs are
more at risk in surgery, more prone
to injury, and have more stress on
heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, and
joints. Excess weight can worsen
osteoarthritis, cause respiratory
problems in hot weather and during
exercise, lead to diabetes mellitis,
and generally lessen the quality of
life for your pet.
Provide some opportunity for
prolonged exercise a couple of
times a week. Long walks, play
sessions, and strenuous training
sessions help keep muscles in
shape and bodies functioning. Time
alone in a yard is not sufficient;
although dogs will run fence lines if
a person or animal happens by,
they are generally as lazy as people
and will not run for the sake of
exercise. Two dogs, however, will
often run, romp, and play together
and thus exercise each other.

Elevate the status of your dog bowls. A dog bowl on
legs is easier for you to use and it's easier for your
dog to use too. Choose a dog bowl that is elevated
and watch your dog enjoy his or her meals. Throw
out your tired old dog bowl and replace it with a new
elevated dog water bowl and food bowl! An elevated
dog bowl will improve digestion, help prevent
choking, and eliminate neck strain.
